A quality polishing cloth is one of the most-used items in any guitarist's care kit — and one of the most underestimated. The LORE® Polishing Cloth is designed to work with the rest of the LORE® product range, but it's also an effective standalone tool for daily maintenance. Here's how to get the most from it.

What Makes a Good Polishing Cloth

Not all cloths are equal. The LORE® Polishing Cloth is made from microfibre — a material with fibres far finer than cotton or standard fabric. These fine fibres lift and trap dust, skin cells, and debris rather than pushing them across the surface, which is what a standard cloth does. The result is a more effective clean with less risk of micro-scratching the finish. The cloth is also lint-free, which matters when polishing a gloss finish — lint left on the surface is visible and frustrating to remove.

Daily Use: The Wipe-Down

The most important guitar care habit is the simplest: wipe down your guitar after every playing session. The LORE® Polishing Cloth is ideal for this.

What to wipe:

• The strings — run the cloth along and underneath each string to remove sweat and debris
• The back of the neck — this is where hand sweat accumulates most
• The body — particularly the forearm contour and the area around the soundhole on acoustics
• The headstock

• With LORE® Instrument Polish: Apply a small amount of polish to the cloth, work into the finish in sections, then use a second clean cloth to buff to a shine.
• With LORE® Fingerboard and Body Wax: Apply wax to the cloth, work into the surface, then buff with a clean section.

Caring for Your Cloth

A polishing cloth that's full of old wax, oil, and debris is less effective and can potentially scratch the finish. Keep your cloth clean:

Washing: Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30°C with a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Do not use fabric softener — it coats the microfibre and reduces its effectiveness. Do not tumble dry on high heat — air dry or use a low heat setting.

Frequency: Wash when the cloth feels waxy, looks discoloured, or stops picking up debris effectively. For regular players, this might be every month or two.

Storage: Store in a clean, dry place — not loose in a gig bag where it can pick up grit and debris that will scratch your finish.

Using Multiple Cloths

For best results, use separate cloths for different purposes:

• One cloth for applying products (this will accumulate product residue over time)
• One cloth for buffing and final wipe-down (keep this as clean as possible)
• One cloth for daily string and neck wipe-downs

This prevents cross-contamination between products and ensures your buffing cloth is always clean enough to produce a streak-free finish.
